Steps to Preserve a Mantoncillo
It is quite simple to preserve a mantoncillo, and it is necessary if we want it to have a long lifespan.
If we decide to invest in the purchase of a mantoncillo, we should follow some preservation steps.
The mantoncillo is an irreplaceable accessory for a perfect finishing touch to your flamenco dress, and you can always use it with dresses for parties or events.
It is a textile item that holds significant value. Therefore, today we want to take the opportunity to explain how to preserve it.
Cleaning can be done at home following the steps below, but you can also take it to a dry cleaner.
If we choose to clean it at home:
Firstly, it’s important to note that one of the elements that tend to get damaged the most are the fringes. Ideally, the mantoncillos should be stored with the fringes completely untangled. If it becomes too complex, you can trim the ends, knowing that it will become slightly shorter, to help keep them all loose. Additionally, they should never be ironed. If they appear messy, you can moisten them with your hands while gently stretching them.
Secondly, they should never be stored on a hanger. The weight of the fringes would end up affecting the silk fabric. The ideal way to store them is to wrap them around their own body, place them in tissue paper, and put them in a box, always ensuring they do not get damp.
Some people prefer to let them fall on the tissue paper instead of wrapping them around themselves. However, it is always important to ensure they are clean before storing them.
Never wash them in a washing machine.
Instead, in a basin with neutral soap, gently immerse the mantoncillo from Masaga and scrub it.
If the mantoncillo has stains that are difficult to remove, it is better to take it to the dry cleaner.
